MANUSCRIPT CATEGORIES AND REQUIREMENTS
Original Articles:
Articles should be no longer than 4000 words, contain no more than 40 references, not more than five figures/tables and include a structured abstract of not more than 300 words. African Journal of Laboratory Haematology and Transfusion Science (AJLHTS) requires all manuscripts to be submitted electronically via the portal www.hbtssn.org/ajlhts or to the Editorial Assistant email: editorialassistant.ajlhts@hbtssn.org
Review Articles
Suitable papers for reviews may be submitted to the Editor for consideration. Articles should be no longer than 5000 words, contain no more than 60 references, not more than six figures/tables and include a non-structured summary of up to 250 words.
Case Reports:
Will not be accepted unless they are of exceptional interest and may be submitted as letters. Case Images The “Case Image” section will consider for publication short reports based on diagnostic original illustrations, in digital format. The images should illustrate an unusual or novel occurrence in the field of laboratory haematology and blood transfusion science, having a substantial learning value for readers. A description of up to 400 words should be provided alongside the image, with a maximum of five authors and at least three references; no abstract or keyword required.

 

Letters to the Editor:
Correspondence which relates to papers which have recently appeared in the journal may be published. The Editor reserves the right to invite response from the original authors for publication alongside. In addition, letters dealing with more general scientific matters of interest to laboratory haematology and blood transfusion science will be considered; such letters will be published online only and will not appear in the printed edition of the journal, although they will be listed in the Table of Contents. Letters should be as short as possible (but no more than 1,500 words of text, three figures or tables, up to 12 references and up to 10 authors). Letters should not include an abstract or structured headings within the body of the letter. Such letters should begin with “Dear Editors”. Correspondence to the journal is accepted on the understanding that the contributing author licenses the publisher to publish the letter as part of the journal or separately from it, in the exercise of any subsidiary rights relating to the journal and its contents.

PREPARING YOUR SUBMISSION

Cover Letters:
Cover letters may be supplied at the author’s discretion. They are not mandatory for manuscript to be published.
Presentation of Manuscript:
The manuscript should be submitted in a single file, double-spaced with 30mm margins. Manuscripts must be numbered consecutively in the following sequence: Title Page; Abstract (if required); Main Body of Text; Acknowledgments; Reference List; Tables and Figure caption List. Title page: The title page should contain the authors name(s), initials and place of work. In addition, the name and full postal address including e-mail of the corresponding author who will deal with all correspondence and proofs should be supplied. The full title should be accompanied by a short running title where the title exceeds 47 letters and spaces. Four to Five keywords should be supplied after the Summary.

Title:
The title should be short and informative, containing major keywords related to the content. The title should not contain abbreviations. Abstract: A well-structured abstract of no more than 300 words is required for original articles, subdivided into the following sequential sections: Introduction; Methods; Results; Conclusion.
Main body of text:
The text of original and review articles should be divided into the following sections: Introduction, Materials and methods, Results, Discussion, Tables, Footnotes and Figure legends (including magnifications).
Acknowledgments:
Acknowledgments should be submitted on a separate sheet. Contributions from anyone who does not meet the criteria for authorship should be listed, with permission from the contributor, in an Acknowledgments section. Financial and material support should also be mentioned. Thanks to anonymous reviewers are not appropriate.
References:
References should be in American Medical Association Manual (AMA) of Style 10th Edition format and numbered consecutively in order of appearance. In text citations should cite references in consecutive order using Arabic superscript numerals and should be listed numerically in the reference list at the end of the article. Format references as below, using standard (Medline) abbreviations for journal titles. If more than six authors, include the first three authors followed by et al. Sample references follow:
